Administrators play a vital role in sport, particularly to reduce the potential for things to go wrong. Here, you can access resources to help you manage risks in your sport.
Coaches and officials are what make sport tick. They play a crucial role in helping keep sport safe, fair and inclusive. Here are a number of tools and resources to help you do just that.
If you are a player then you can make a huge contribution to making sport safe, fair and inclusive. Your behaviour influences others, not only your team mates, but everyone involved in sport.
As a parent you should be aware of your clubs responsibilities. At the same time you also have responsibilities and you can play a huge role in creating a safe environment for your child.
Play by the Rules has a large network of ‘champion’ sports men and women that support safe, fair and inclusive sport. They have provided us with some great messages in the form of audio files you can download and use on your own website and for promotional purposes.

Sport is for everyone and everyone should feel safe, respected and get a fair go. No matter who you are or where you are from there is just no place in sport for intolerance, racism, sexism or discrimination of any kind. Keep your sport inclusive, safe and fair go to playbytherules.net.au.

No matter what your age most of us played sport when we were young and there was always one thing that made you want to disappear into a corner or even give up your chosen sport. And that was when someone on the sideline hurled abuse at either you or a team mate. These are the moments that make sport painful for so many kids and the time has come to stop it. I’m Elyse Perry from the Southern Stars and my message is simple – let kids be kids – let them enjoy their sport without interference. Google Play by the Rules to find out more.

Most parents agree that junior sport is about kids getting exercise and having fun at the same time. But for some kids that fun becomes a nightmare when they are put under constant pressure by parents and spectators. Yelling out instructions from the sideline or banging on about what you think they did wrong can turn kids away from sport for good. I’m Caitlin Thwaites from the Australian Diamonds and it’s time to let kids be kids. Google Play by the Rules to find out more.

Pressure, it’s something that most of us don’t like to be under. In fact, it often causes confusion and mistakes. As a professional athlete it’s something I’ve had to get used to. Yet people seem to think it’s okay to be put heaps of pressure on kids to perform when they are playing sport. It may seem harmless enough but constant calling out instructions from the sideline and telling kids what to do can be a real downer. I’m Sam Thaiday from the Queensland Origin team – it’s time to let kids be kids. Google Play by the Rules to find out more.

This weekend kids all across Australia will be having a great time playing sport. That is until they hear that ugly voice from the sideline that has a go at someone because they are too big, too slow or because of their ethnic background. To those people on the sidelines my message is ‘butt out’, when you are young sport should be fun. I’m Matt Ryan from the Socceroos, and it’s time that we let kids be kids. I‘m an Australian female basketballer with a Nigerian background. As a kid I was called names because of the colour of my skin, but it just drove me to work harder. In 2012 I went to the Olympics with the Opals - that shut the name callers up. Many people are picked on because of their background or colour and it pushed them away from sport. For tips on how to keep your sport free of racism visit playbytherules.net.au. I’m Liz Cambage and I’m proud to say ‘racism, stops with me’.

Come on everyone, it can’t be that difficult. If your ability, attitude and effort means that you can play sport - or that you can’t – the other stuff shouldn’t matter. And by other stuff I mean whether a person is straight or gay. If you can play, you can play. I’m Dave Pocock from the UC Brumbies and I want to keep homophobia out of sport.
