Supplements in sport

Quite simply, if you have any concerns about the use of supplements or image enhancing substances, for yourself or for others, the best thing you can do is to get informed. Unfortunately, that can be easier said than done!

Here are some of the things you can do to get informed about supplements use:

  • Are you supplements savvy? Ask yourself before buying any supplement:
  1. Is it safe? (has it been third party tested  - by agencies such as Informed-Sport or Hasta);
  2. Is it legal? (see ASADA or WADA)
  3. Is it needed? (Sports Dietitians Australia)
  • If you consider the supplement is safe and legal then it's important to find an accredited sports dietitian and get their advice about what’s right for you. It’s much better to spend $150 or so on a personal consultation than it is to spend that money randomly guessing what’s right for you based on product packaging or a friends advice. Luckily, Sports Dietitians Australia can help. Go to https://www.sportsdietitians.com.au/#find-sports-dietitian to find a Sports Dietitian near you.
